Simon Claisse, clerk of the Cheltenham course, has reported that the racetrack was hit by rain just a few days before the highly anticipated Cheltenham Festival 2019. Claisse further explained that the Cheltenham racecourse experienced a 17mm of rain overnight and 27mm in total since last Wednesday.

The Cheltenham horse racing track was one of the areas in Gloucestershire to have suffered from a soggy 24 hours. The ground on all three racecourses – cross country, chase and hurdle tracks, has been changed from good to soft after the rain.

At a press conference held last week, the Cheltenham racecourse official also mentioned that the amount of rain they’ve experienced was the same as what was forecasted. And in what Claisse described as an “unsettled forecast”, the same amount of rain is also expected for the lead-up to The Festival, which starts on Tuesday. In other words, showers and strong winds could be experienced for the entire week of Cheltenham Races 2019.

So while the racecourse has taken the rain pretty well, the weather forecast in Gloucestershire, as mentioned previously, remains unstable.
