Now that the Cheltenham Racing Festival is only less than a month away, bettors have been strongly backing Irish runners. Following the announcement by the BHA, Irish horses have been the second most supported in all four Champion races of the Cheltenham Festival in the last 24 hours.
However, trainer Nicky Henderson said that many of his runners need further vaccination. Because of this, bettors believe that other major trainers might be having the same situation.
Other trainers choose to vaccinate their horses in the summer or the New Year.
Trainers Alan King and Paul Nicholls picked to vaccinate their horses on January, and thus they will be unaffected by the new BHA rules that require declared runners to be treated in the last six months.
Meanwhile, Irish trainers are not really affected by this. According to Oddschecker, Presenting Percy has garnered a lot of support these couple of days, making him the most popular bet for the Cheltenham Races 2019. Patrick Kelly’s Native River is currently the second favourite, while Kemboy grabs the third place.
The only race where a British-trained runner gained a lot of support is at the Sun Racing Stayers’ Hurdles, where Paisley Park of Emma Lavelle is the most popular bet. But Samcro of Gordon Elliot is also gaining support there. This situation is similar to the runners in the Champion Hurdle of the Cheltenham Racing Festival, where the one dominating the bets is Irish-trained Apple’s Jade.
